Katie received her B.Sc. from the University of Toronto, her hometown. She received her M.Sc. in Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of British Columbia. She then did her Ph.D. work at Princeton University with Celeste Nelson, studying branching morphogenesis of the mouse lung. Next, she carried out postdoctoral research in the lab of Kate McDole at MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. There, she studied the remarkable migration of primordial germ cells through the developing mouse embryo. As a postdoc in the Mesa lab, she is studying the migration and differentiation of another remarkable cell population, tissue resident macrophages. In her free time, she loves spending time with her two dogs and three cats, crocheting, skiing, and going to the beach.
